Every year, Johnson/Turner Legal awards a scholarship to a graduating senior in memory of the Honorable Douglas G. Swenson, who died in 2009 after a battle with leukemia. Judge Swenson was a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives and a Judge of the Minnesota District Court in Chisago and Pine counties.
Having lost his son to a drunk driving accident involving an underage drinker, Judge Swenson was a strong advocate for early intervention for youth involved in drugs and alcohol. Judge Swenson was a college classmate of Chris Johnson and Erin Turner’s parents, and a good friend of their family.
Kailyn Pratt, the 2023 recipient of the scholarship, graduated from North Lakes Academy this month and plans to attend Bethel University in the fall. She will be pursuing a major in social work. Due to her PSEO classes, Kailyn is on course to earn her Masters Degree in four years.
“We believe strongly in empowering the next generation of leaders who will strive to make a positive impact on humanity. This is just one way to honor Judge Swenson’s legacy,” said Erin Turner, one of the owners of Johnson/Turner Legal. “We are thrilled to support Kailyn in her journey to help others.”
