In response, our foundering Partners set out to revolutionize the practice of law by focusing on empathy and effectiveness.

Our Story

Chris Johnson and Erin Turner, our founding partners, began their journey in corporate law but soon realized something essential was missing. They wanted a deeper connection with their clients and to witness firsthand the difference they could make in their lives. This realization led them to establish Johnson/Turner, focusing on Family Law. Their shift to this field wasn’t just about changing their practice; it was about addressing the shortcomings they observed in the Family Law system and dedicating themselves to improving it.

APRIL 2003

Chris Johnson started the firm.

FEB 2004

Hired our first employee, Karla Lein – Paralegal.

Fun fact, Karla is still working with us!

MAY 2005

Erin Turner joins the firm making Johnson & Turner, Attorneys at Law, P.A.

SUMMER 2006

We decided to become a paperless lawfirm. Pretty much unheard of for the time. But we knew that this decision would benefit our clients.

MARCH 2011

We changed our name to Johnson & Turner, Attorneys at Law and Mediation Center, P.A.

NOV 2014

Realizing our name was a bit too long, we changed it to Johnson/Turner Legal.

SUMMER 2015

Built our own document automation system on the Hotdocs platform to automate the drafting of our court pleadings,

IN 2016

Moved our family law practice from hourly billing to fixed pricing.

* We are still the only firm in Minnesota that does not bill hourly on family law matters.

IN 2018

We began using the team approach to all family law matters, hiring sales and intake roles to assist with client onboarding.

OCT 2018

We trademarked FairWell Mediation, providing mediations with full court pleadings. This service is still not offered by anything other firms.

JAN 2019

We trademarked DIYvorce, giving clients a Do-It-Yourself option using our sophisticated document automation system.

2020

The pandemic began our first year of true remote work.

2022

Post-Pandemic we chose to remain mostly remote as a way to keeps costs down to clients and to provide more flexibility to employees

2023

We celebrated 20 years as a practice!
